About Us

DR. DEANNA MITCHELL is a 1992 graduate of Kansas State University. After serving the Northern Virginia area for eight years, she opened AMC in November 2000. Dr. Mitchell began her career as a military veterinarian providing service to military working dogs and horses, US Secret Service K9 Unit, US Custom's Canine Enforcement Training Center and Socks the First Cat. In 1998 Dr. Mitchell traveled to Africa to assist missionaries in treating the herds of the Maasai tribe. Hoping to return one day, she now lives with her pride of two adopted cats, Josie and Jade.

CLAUDIA is a German citizen who moved to the US in 1992. Although her formal education is in logistics, marketing and retail, Claudia has always concerned herself with animal welfare. Her experience in animal shelters and veterinary hospitals are of great benefit to the AMC clientele.

BARLEY who was previously a blood donor at the Animal Emergency Hospital in Leesburg, has chosen to grace the halls of AMC with his presence. A Maine Coon socialite, he looks forward to entertaining you when you visit…as long as you'll rub his tummy!
