DeAnna J. Mitchell, DVM
Dr. DeAnna J. Mitchell, owner and Chief of Staff, earned her veterinary degree in 1992 from the Kansas State University, School of Veterinary Medicine. Following veterinary school, Dr. Mitchell joined the US Army Veterinary Corp and spent the next 5-years managing veterinary clinics at Andrews Air Force Base, MD; Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC; and Fort Myer, VA. She has since retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve.
After leaving active duty in 1997, Dr. Mitchell spent eighteen months working as a relief veterinarian in Northern Virginia, one year as an Associate Veterinarian at Ashburn Veterinary Hospital, and ten months as an Associate Veterinarian at Animal Emergency Hospital in Leesburg, Virginia.
Following a personal dream, Dr. Mitchell spent two months traveling through Africa in 1998. After visiting Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Kenya, the majority of her time was spent in the Rift Valley of Tanzania. Staying with a missionary family located in Geli Meru Goi, she helped to provide veterinary support to the nomadic Maasai tribes while learning their way of life.
Dr. Mitchell established Animal Medical Center of Cascades in November 2000. Her goal was to create a hospital that maintained the highest standards of veterinary medicine, compassionate animal care, and client education with the help of a dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled staff. Dr. Mitchell's special interests include surgery, ultrasound and the management of chronic diseases.
Dr. Mitchell shares her life with her husband Craig, daughter Darcy Paige, and three cats…Jade, Yoda, and Mae. She enjoys good music, Craig’s grilling, NE Football, Caps Hockey, four-wheeling, mountain biking and trail running.
